DISCOVERY PLANET EARTH ON DVD, BLU-RAY and HD-DVD

The "Planet Earth" series was actually a British BBC production. Over here in the US, Discovery channel just began airing the series. The BBC site limits content and viewing to UK users only, so if you haven't heard of it yet, the Discovery site is the place to start. If you're lucky enough to have Discovery HD, which is common to both satellite and cable HD packages, you'll be able to witness this breathtaking series in high definition. It's show's like this that make HD a necessity, and reminds us why we were so captivated with the format from the beginning. The BBC always dishes out class content and in actuality, a lot of what ends up on Discovery and National Geographic are actually BBC productions. But getting back on track, the BBC crew have outdone themselves on this one, and I'm grateful to Discovery channel for bringing the experience to us.

The great news is that the series is now available on DVD, Blu-Ray and HD-DVD, but with the slightly out-of-place voiceover from Sigourney Weaver in the US broadcast, replaced with the original narration from Sir David Attenborough. If you don't yet own a Blu Ray or HD-DVD player, and are limited to the DVD version, I'd have to say that this is one of those instances where it truly will be two completely different experiences. If you don't have an HDTV yet, now is a great time to take a look at the HDTV BLOWOUT SALE going on over at Amazon.
The series will ship April 24th 2007, but Amazon are taking pre-orders now. Here are the direct links to the products, but even if you have no intention of buying it to own, click the link just to watch the astounding video clip, then imagine it in 1080P on your big screen.

Huh? There's different commentary on the retail version? Didn't know this! I'm a big fan of Aliens but Sigourney didn't quite sound right here. Looking forward to the BluRay version!
