Katsumi Ihara, Sony's Executive Deputy President and President of TV and Video Business Group, annouced that the first commerically available OLED displays will be available by the end of 2007. After their debut at CES 2007, Sony claim that the level of interest in the technology has encouraged them to push development of this new technology into production earlier than originally anticipated. 1,000,000: 1contrast ratio sounds great, but given that this will be the first generation of the technology, it may be worth waiting until second or third generation products before switching from current HD techologies. LCD's and plasmas for example are in their 12th generation and already have at least a 15 year history of production.
