Dave Karakker, SCEA's senior director of communications, made the official announcement on Gamepro today. It's official. The 60GB version was outselling the 20GB by a 10:1 ratio. Only having one SKU number will simplify things a little for retailers, but now the gap was widened between the price of the XBOX 360 and PS3.
The comparable Xbox 360 would be the Elite version that is released later this month, and has a retail price of $479 versus the $599 of the PS3. I say comparable, but the Elite still has no built in HD-DVD or wireless capabilities and is still running HDMI version 1.2. It does however, sport a 120GB hard drive drive. (It seems that 1080P and HDMI "WERE" necessary. Pun because Microsoft had made a comment to the contrary when the PS3 specs were first being announced)!
